Terry Fox Run April 14th 2019 - The Doon School

The Terry Fox run or THE MARATHON OF HOPE was flagged off today 14th April ’19 in the Doon school by a Kargil war hero Brig. J.S. Jaggi SM, Dy.G.O.C. Sub-area Uttarakhand, Mr. Matthew Raggett the Headmaster of the Doon School Mr. and Gurmeet Singh, Chairman of the Indo Canadian Cancer Research Foundation and also an old boy spoke to the participants about the dreaded disease and the need to find a cure for it . Aryan Bhattacharya a Class 12 student of The Doon school spoke about the determination of Terry Fox who was detected with cancer at the age of 18 but ran with an artificial leg for a distance of 5373 kms to collect funds for cancer research. He ran an average of about 40 km per day before he succumbed to the disease on the road. With the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) naming former minister  Surjit Singh Rakhra  as its candidate, the Patiala Lok Sabha seat is likely to witness a triangular contest. While Dr Dharamvira Gandhi is already in the fray as PDA (Punjab Democratic Alliance) nominee, former Union Minister Preneet Kaur is almost certain to be fielded by the Congress. While Rakhra enjoys a good rapport with the common people, Preneet Kaur has been nurturing the constituency for over two decades. Dr Gandhi is too a popular figure in the area. Lok Sabha election: Parminder Dhindsa is Akali Dal pick from Sangrur

Parminder will face sitting MP and Aam Aadmi Party state president Bhagwant Mann, who had defeated Dhindsa Sr in the 2014 polls, while the Congress is yet to announce its candidate. The Shiromani Akali Dal on Friday announced former finance minister and Lehra MLA  Parminder Singh Dhindsa  as its candidate from Sangrur, a month after he reportedly expressed his reluctance to contest the election. He has taken the plunge against his father Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa’s advice not to contest the Lok Sabha polls as the “atmosphere is not right”.
